| The Chubu Area has a highly
concentrated industrial economy, which includes a variety of industries: transport
machinery such as motor vehicles; general machinery such as metal machine tools; aerospace
industry; heavy electrical equipment; assembling industries for visual equipment,
communication and electronic parts, and car electronics products; also local industries
such as textile, porcelain and pottery. The area has been the central location for “making things” in Japan, and has been leading the Japanese Economy in this field up
to the present day. |

| In terms of the value of
industrial shipments, the Chubu Area accounted for 17% of the country’s industrial shipments in 1989, and had steadily increased that
share to 18% by 2000, demonstrating a steady growth. In terms of industrial shipments per
capita, the Chubu Area boasts the highest share in all of Japan. Recently, products with
added value are gaining demand as state-of-the-art technologies such as Information
Technology, Biotechnology and Fine Ceramics converge in this region. |

its role in becoming the mainstay for industry and technology on a global scale, and in
anticipating “CHUBU” making great strides onto the global
